Magic Monte As DMACK Takes First Win On Tarmac

• DMACK scores first ever WRC stage victory on Tarmac.
• Top British driver Elfyn Evans finishes sixth in season opener.
• Best finish for DMACK in Monte Carlo.
• New DMACK asphalt tyres deliver world-class performance.

After six full seasons of competition, the opening round of the 2017 FIA World Rally Championship saw DMACK score its first-ever fastest stage time on Tarmac, when a sealed-surface performance boost on the iconic Rallye Monte Carlo enabled the tyre firm to win three of Saturday's five special stages.

Elfyn Evans and co-driver Daniel Barritt surprised the WRC regulars after storming to the top of the time sheets on three separate occasions. Their sixth place finish was DMACK's top result on Monte and proof that its new asphalt and winter tyres have made massive leaps forward in performance.

The traditional season-opener lived up to its reputation, with competitors facing a range of fearsome winter conditions across the stages in the French Alps. After enduring a difficult day on Friday, when he struggled to get to grips with the hard-packed, icy roads, Evans turned it around on Saturday's five stages to the south-west of host town Gap.

He scored DMACK's first fastest time on stage 10, then stormed through stage 12 to finish 7.4 seconds ahead of his nearest rival - team-mate, four-time world champion and eventual rally winner Sebastien Ogier. And on stage 13, a flat-out blast on clean, dry asphalt roads, Evans blitzed the pack again to dominate the day.

It was a real British success story. The winning combination of Evans, Barritt, DMACK's British-built tyres and M-Sport's Cumbrian-made Ford Fiesta WRC was the star of a super, snowy Saturday.

The result was down to the newly-launched range of DMACK Grippa tyres for the 2017 season. Packed full of performance upgrades, including a new tread pattern, wider profile and latest compounds, Evans won stages using the studded DMT-ICE2 winter tyre and the DMT-RC22 asphalt tyre in both XS6+ (extra soft) and S6+ (soft) compounds.

It was an historic event for DMACK with every single type of tyre nominated for the event demonstrating huge strides forward and confirming a new level of confidence in the range of world-class asphalt products.

Rallye Monte Carlo saw crews flagged off from a glitzy opening ceremony in Casino Square on Thursday evening. Competitors tackled 13 stages around the French town of Gap, before heading south for the final four stages today.

The event saw DMACK start its seventh consecutive season as authorised tyre supplier to the WRC and once again the challenging conditions ensured tyre strategy played a critical role in the result.

Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: "Last season saw our gravel products challenge for WRC victories and this year has started exceptionally well for our Tarmac tyres. We have to be pleased with the result on what has been some of the toughest Monte conditions for a few years, it's a big step forward for us. Elfyn has driven exceptionally well all weekend and huge congratulations are due to M-Sport for winning on the debut of their new Fiesta."

Elfyn Evans, DMACK WRC driver, said: "It’s a fantastic start to the season for us. We didn't have a great day on Friday but Saturday's performance more than made up for that and really raised some eyebrows. I was very happy with my driving and the feeling with the car and tyres was really positive. It was easy to work with Daniel again, everything gelled together right from the start."
