Third Victory For DMACK Sees Evans Extend Lead

DMACK drivers extended their lead of the MSA British Rally Championship after Elfyn Evans and Craig Parry scored their third victory today at the Nicky Grist Stages in Wales. The DMACK British Rally Team pair were untouchable on both gravel and asphalt surfaces to win 12 of the 15 stages, and take victory by over a minute. They now have a 39-point championship lead.

DMACK runners won all three of the top BRC classes and, in BRC2, Matt Edwards and Will Rogers were crowned champions with two rounds still remaining, sealing the BRC title today in their DMACK-equipped Mitsubishi EVO.

The Nicky Grist Stages was the only mixed-surface round of the championship and Evans was quickly into the groove. He blasted through stage three more than 15 seconds quicker than anyone else to open up a 24-second advantage by the first service halt. Using DMACK’s soft compound gravel tyre, he mastered the wet, muddy and treacherously slippery conditions of the Crychan and Halfway stages, formally tests of Wales Rally GB.

In their Autotek prepared Ford Fiesta R5 the pair were fastest on seven of the opening day’s eight stages to hold an overnight lead of 48 seconds.

During a specially extended service, cars were transformed to asphalt specification for today’s action over the Epynt military ranges and Evans picked up where he left off on the tricky Tarmac tests. With mixed weather conditions playing havoc with tyre choice, the soft compound DMACK DMT-RC2 proved perfect for the wet and damp roads.

Evans topped the timesheets on a further five stages, extending his lead and finishing back in Builth Wells with a 1 minute 11 second advantage.

In the DMACK British Junior Championship, Irishman Rob Duggan made it a hat-trick of victories this season after a faultless drive. He led from start to finish to head a Vauxhall Motorsport one-two.

Elfyn Evans, DMACK British Rally Team driver, said: “It was quite a tricky rally but we went hard from the start and opened up a strong lead on the gravel stages. The conditions were difficult all weekend but the tyres and car both worked well and we were able to manage things perfectly. It has been a very positive result and great that we’ve extended our lead in the championship.”

Glenn Patterson, DMACK British Rally Team manager, said: “We came to the rally with a focus on another victory to consolidate our championship challenge, so we’ve really had the ideal result. Conditions on both days were very difficult but, as expected, the tyres worked perfectly when it got tough and Elfyn and Craig controlled the event to take an important third win.”
